Turkey in Europe; Turkey out

A while ago I wrote about the strategic position of Turkey between Europe and the Middle East.  For those interested in the East-West identity take a quick look at this video from Al Jazeera.  Could the Euro-skepticism in Turkey partly be a result of Turkey’s popularity in the Middle East?

Speaking of popularity, Trukish PM Erdogan offered to mediate peace talks between Syria and Israel. Wouldn’t that be a nice development?

Unrelated: check out Joshua Landis’ collection of links judging Lebanese PM Hariri’s trip to Damascus.
