Sheikh Jarrah: Where Robbery Is Legal

[tweetmeme] East Jerusalem is a very touchy subject.  The Palestinians want it as the capital to their future state and PM Netanyahu says Israel will never leave Jerusalem.  Clearly there are some disagreements.  To help jump-start the peace process last November, Netanyahu declared a partial settlement freeze, but refused to include East Jerusalem in the freeze, a decision that Palestinians are furious about.  Indeed, settlements continue to grow in the eastern part of the city as more Israeli Jews move in at the expense of Palestinian Arabs.  All too often this is done through the expulsion of entire families.  Protests by Israelis and Palestinians have shown popular discontent with the treatment of Palestinians by the government and the settlers, but the repossession continues.  Here is a brief video from Al Jazeera documenting the eviction of a Palestinian family by Jewish settlers.  The Israeli police idly sit by while the settlers brutally throw all the family’s possessions into the garden.
